Dr Christos Mamo-zelos (BA. MA. Ph.D.)

  1. As a Journalist, Filmmaker, Digital Media Professional and Educator, I have provided Industry Professional Media, Communication and Journalism Training at Griffith University and Southern Cross University for over 15 years.

  2. I provide a direct correlation between academic theory and best industry practice. Then I show students how to put it into practice and  you can see the results in the videos below.

  3. I link the film, media and communications industry to the university. For example, I have invited Channel 9 Gold Coast Producer Tamara Hamilton each year to a special lecture where students can ask all the hard questions about the industry. Students were taught to research, source, interview, write, edit, and produce original news stories. They were then given direction and tuition on speech delivery and presentation skills and the opportunity to present as an anchor and compile a whole news bulletin.

  4. I provide students with a showreel of their work. This is the most successful way for students to gain employment.

  5. From the students in the video below, April Clarke now works for Channel 9 Gold Coast, and Carley Madsen works for Channel 7 Gold Coast. Jacob Chicco is now Chief of Staff at WIN on The Sunshine Coast and takes on Interns for me.

  6. I was also awarded a Teaching Commendation for this class by Adam Shoemaker, the Academic Provost then, who is now the Vice-Chancellor at SCU. Examples of my lectures and training videos are below.

Southern Cross University : Essential Screen Skills

Unit Assessor: Grayson Cooke.             Lecturer, Tutor and Producer: Chris Mamo

My Southern Cross University Students producing Television Commercials. They learn essential screen skills such as writing, mise en scène, cinematography, sound, lighting, production, editing, colour grading and prepping for broadcast.

I was contracted by Southern Cross University to teach "True Stories: Video Journalism".

The course consisted of teaching how to research, write, film, edit and produce a news story and a current affairs story. I instigated the use of 'New Communication Technologies' such as  apps and prosumer equipment for DSLR's and Mobile phones for Mojo Journalism. This allowed students to produce stories with consumer equipment. I also initiated the purchase of Autocue hardware and software to use the green screen and turn it into a working news room. The result was a very successful whole News Bulletin in the new studio, where every student could showcase their work.
